This is one of the oldest and proudest of sports at Lucton School. The school boasts a proud landmark too in that the local National League Rugby Club, Luctonians was founded by old boys of Lucton School 70 years ago this year!
The school continues its support of the club and the provision of first class rugby for young people, by sponsoring the Junior Section of the club. The club is further supported by the pupils who combine their school experience with club rugby on a Sunday. Many of our pupils provide the cornerstone to those teams who are very successful regionally.
Pupils as young as 6 experience rugby and it is a pivotal part of the sports programme at Lucton school. Indeed, the values of rugby as laid down by the Rugby Football Union are synonymous with our school values and pupils experience this unique game in a variety of guises as they progress up the school and ensure these values are learned and respected.
Lucton’s seniors have won the Prestigious Johnny Wilkinson Cup on two occasions in recent times. The U13 have been ISA Midlands Sevens (7s) Champions on several occasions in recent years and Lucton’s teams compete locally, regionally and at national ISA competitions too.
The game is also popular with girls and again in recent times, our team has been Area South Winners and we have competed at Rosslyn Park 7s, the biggest school based competition in the world for 7s.
Even at the younger ages, we are doing well and with many of our younger players also playing at the Luctonians Rugby Club, they are well coached, both in school and at the rugby club.
